My Friends That Are Not is a thought-provoking book designed to help children observe, challenge and replace negative and destructive thoughts. The timing is more than perfect in this age of bullying and negative peer pressure. I have personally met both authors, Eisley and Dan Brandt. These two represent a powerful father and daughter team as they examine the types of things we say to ourselves. Their writing helps the reader to reflect on character development and the power of choosing one's voice purposefully.
The root causes of a critic, worrier, perfectionist, and victim (the sub personalities of anxiety) are put under the lens of a thought detective. This book has the potential to impact youth and encourages them to replace destructive thoughts with positive, empowering thoughts. How wonderful to read a poetic book of substance, laced in intentionality and the power of the mind. Every school counselor, librarian, teacher, parent, grandparent and youth now has a book to help heal emotions and transition from victim to victor
